St Leonards has a population of approximately 4,500. It is mainly urban and has a mix of elderly and young residents. The population continues to expand with the building of new houses and estates. A lot of community activity centres around the shops on Magdalen Road, which has a wide variety of retail outlets and cafes. Crime levels are low and the main problem in the area seems to be sporadic incidents of vandalism.

Newtown has a population of approximately 5,400. Again, it is urban and has a mix of young and elderly residents. Within Newtown lies Belmont Park and the community association hut located in the middle of it. These form the focus of nearly all of the community and social events that occur within the neighbourhood. Crime is at a roughly average level for an area of this size and it is focused mainly on the commercial areas.
