In September 2011, Other Crime was divided into 6 categories - Drugs, Public Disorder & Weapons (PD&W), Criminal Damage & Arson (CD&A), Theft - Shoplifting, Theft-Other and Other. In order to avoid confusion, UKCrimeStats has renamed the original "Other" category as "Other Total" which is the sum of these 6 and this is what is displayed from December 2010 to August 2011

The Economic Policy Centre www.economicpolicycentre.com has made every effort in order to ensure that the data for UkCrimeStats is accurate and up to date. However, we are aware of certain deficiencies in this data which are beyond our control. That's because as a 3rd party developer, we do not collect the data, the Police do who then hand it over to another data company to release to 3rd party developers such as ourselves. Beacon Park & Pennycross has a population of approximately 15,500. The area is largely urban and residential in nature although Burrington Industrial Estate on Burrington Way at the northernmost extent of Pennycross is the largest single location dedicated to industrial use.

A number of new developments have taken place over recent years which have attracted a significant number of young professionals to the area. The development of the old Plymouth Albion site is one such example.

Pennycross also has the benefit of a considerable tract of public open space with Manadon Playing Fields greatly enhancing the recreational opportunities and aesthetic qualities of the area.

The residential neighbourhoods themselves are further broken down into distinct compartments on a localised level with convenience stores, shops, takeaways and licensed premises sited in clusters throughout.

The Beacon Park & Pennycross neighbourhood team is made up of Nicola Haddon and Darren Clark. It is one of four neighbourhood teams supervised by Sergeant Gliddon. The neighbourhood team is based at the police station on Beacon Park Road.

The area is a safe place to live with the likelihood of being a victim of crime falling well below the national average. In addition incidents of serious crime are very low indeed.

Antisocial behaviour can be a recurring problem at some locations and the local policing team are keen to take positive action wherever possible, eliminating the problem in many instances.

Working Together

As your local neighbourhood police team, we know only too well that tackling crime and antisocial behaviour is not just a job for the police.

Besides relying heavily on the co-operation of the local community, we also work very closely with various partner organisations and individuals in the City.

We have a particularly close working relationship with a wide range of staff from many different departments of Plymouth City Council who are invaluable in terms of helping make your neighbourhood a safer and better place to be.

For example we rely on the Council's Anti Social Behaviour Unit for specialist help in securing ASBO's, court injunctions and drug den closures. We work alongside this unit and local housing officers in any cases where residents may be evicted from their homes.

When it comes to common problems such as graffiti, littering, dog fouling and noisy neighbours, we join forces with the Council's Environmental Protection Team to deal with offenders.

And in dealing with young people who are either causing trouble in their local communities - or are likely to get drawn into antisocial behaviour - we team up with the Youth Offending Service, various other Council youth services and local schools.

On Police Stations and Crime

Mar 25th 2013:  An insightful piece by London Mayor Boris Johnson today and he summed up very well the issue of how useful Police buildings and stations are in fighting crime; Police buildings do not make arrests. They do not lumber down the street in pursuit of criminals. They do not observe crime, and according to most criminologists there is no real evidence that they even deter crime – not just by sitting there as an inanimate structure of bricks and mortar. Crime is not fought by buildings, but by ...  Continue reading
