In September 2011, Other Crime was divided into 6 categories - Drugs, Public Disorder & Weapons (PD&W), Criminal Damage & Arson (CD&A), Theft - Shoplifting, Theft-Other and Other. In order to avoid confusion, UKCrimeStats has renamed the original "Other" category as "Other Total" which is the sum of these 6 and this is what is displayed from December 2010 to August 2011

Property Marking Event (Meeting)
Marking your property is an extremely effective way of proptecting your valuables from theft.
If your property is clearly identifiable it will be worth less money to thieves and harder to resell.
Marking your property also increases the chances of having your valuables returned to you in the event of items being lost or stolen.

Your local policing team will be attending the Ipplepen Village Hall on wednesday 26th June 2013 to urge residents to take some simple and effective steps to make their property less attractive to thieves. Please come along between 1pm and 3pm where PCSO Lisa Clubb and crime prevention officer Nicola Dukes will be available to register you to the property marking scheme Immobilise.

Newton Abbot – Rural encompasses Kingskerswell, Abbotskerswell, Coffinswell, Ipplepen, Denbury, and Ogwell. The population is very varied. It continues to expand with new developments being built in number of locations.

The Newton Abbot Rural team is made up of PC Dave Rogers, PCSO Lisa Clubb and PCSO Shaun Woodward. It is one of four Neighbourhood teams supervised by Sergeant Phil Williams and are based at Newton Abbot Police Station.

The rural areas of Newton Abbot are a safe place to live with the likelihood of being a victim of crime being well below the national average. In addition the incidents of serious crime are very low indeed. The main problems are spontaneous incidents of vandalism committed by those passing through the area. There are also problems with fear of crime. Some of this is created by differing views of what is acceptable causing relatively low level behaviour being interpreted as a significant threat.

On Police Stations and Crime

Mar 25th 2013:  An insightful piece by London Mayor Boris Johnson today and he summed up very well the issue of how useful Police buildings and stations are in fighting crime; Police buildings do not make arrests. They do not lumber down the street in pursuit of criminals. They do not observe crime, and according to most criminologists there is no real evidence that they even deter crime – not just by sitting there as an inanimate structure of bricks and mortar. Crime is not fought by buildings, but by ...  Continue reading
