In September 2011, Other Crime was divided into 6 categories - Drugs, Public Disorder & Weapons (PD&W), Criminal Damage & Arson (CD&A), Theft - Shoplifting, Theft-Other and Other. In order to avoid confusion, UKCrimeStats has renamed the original "Other" category as "Other Total" which is the sum of these 6 and this is what is displayed from December 2010 to August 2011

About Your Neighbourhood
Torre and Upton consists of individual areas of Torre (pictured below left) and Upton (pictured below right) the two areas were merged together in 2010 to form the new ward Torre and Upton ward which was previously known as Tormohun.

The ward is at the heart of a vibrant community in Torquay. Areas such as Brunswick Square, Lymington Road and Castle Circus (pictured below) provide some of the commercial areas in the ward.
The area is home to a variety of different groups of people. A large percentage of the population is made up of young adults, and people who living in multi-occupancy accommodation or flats.
There are also significant populations of families with at least one child, young couples and people living in recently built housing.

Working in partnership
As your local neighbourhood police team, we know only too well that tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is not just a job for the police.
Besides relying heavily on the co-operation of the local community, we also work very closely with various partner organisations and individuals in Torre and Upton.
We have a particularly close working relationship with a wide range of staff from many different departments of Torbay Council who are invaluable in terms of helping us make your neighbourhood a safer and better place to be.
For example we rely on the Torbay Council’s Anti Social Behaviour Team which are specialist council officers that help in securing ASBOs, court injunctions and drug den closures.
We work alongside this unit and local housing officers in any cases where residents may be evicted from their homes.
When it comes to common problems such as graffiti, littering, dog fouling and noisy neighbours, we join forces with the Council’s Environmental Protection Team to deal with offenders.
And in dealing with young people who are either causing trouble in their local communities - or are likely to get drawn into anti social behaviour - we team up with the Youth Offending Service, various other Council youth services and local schools.

On Police Stations and Crime
Mar 25th 2013: An insightful piece by London Mayor Boris Johnson today and he summed up very well the issue of how useful Police buildings and stations are in fighting crime; Police buildings do not make arrests. They do not lumber down the street in pursuit of criminals. They do not observe crime, and according to most criminologists there is no real evidence that they even deter crime – not just by sitting there as an inanimate structure of bricks and mortar. Crime is not fought by buildings, but by ... Continue reading
