In September 2011, Other Crime was divided into 6 categories - Drugs, Public Disorder & Weapons (PD&W), Criminal Damage & Arson (CD&A), Theft - Shoplifting, Theft-Other and Other. In order to avoid confusion, UKCrimeStats has renamed the original "Other" category as "Other Total" which is the sum of these 6 and this is what is displayed from December 2010 to August 2011

CURRENT NEIGHBOURHOOD PRIORITIES:

1. To stop parking around Mount Street School, namely Olive Street, when children are arriving at and leaving from school.

2. To reduce the number of ASB incidents on the Ermine East Estate.

"YOU SAID, WE DID" ACTIONS AGAINST PRIORITIES:

You asked us to stop people parking outside Mount Street School when the children were arriving and leaving the school.

We stepped up patrols during these times and gave out parking tickets when needed. We engaged with parents and the school to help convey the message of No Parking. We will continue to patrol this area when possible.

GENERAL NEIGHBOURHOOD INFORMATION:

The Castle area covers the Ermine West within the boundary of Burton Road, Newport, Riseholme Road and the A46. The population of the neighbourhood is approx 6, 684 people. This represents 7% of the entire population of the LCDC area. It is almost certain that this figure has increased recently, with both an increasing number of migrant workers coming to the area to live and work and an increase in residential developments throughout the neighbourhood. The housing is mainly semi-detached with on street parking, and majority of households in the area are owner occupied and the proportion of households rented from the council is high. The area has a large percentage of people aged over 60 living within it. There is one senior comprehensive school, one junior and one infant school. There is also a special learning school for pupils with disabilities. The area has a number of small businesses and also a leisure centre.

The Minster area covers the Ermine East from Riseholme Road to Nettleham Road, down Lee Road and up Wragby Road and then back down Newport. It is mostly housing area.

The population of the Minster area is around 7,132 people. This represents 8% of the entire population of the LCDC area. Females represent a slightly higher percentage of people in the beat area. This is in line with both district and national averages. The age ranges within the beat area are broadly in line with the national averages, however there is a slightly higher proportion of people aged over 70.

Minster Ward has four Primary Schools; this also consists of a private school. Bishop Grosseteste University is also on the area, which brings a number of students to the area.

There are also four churches across the ward; these are all branches of Christianity.

They do not observe crime, and according to most criminologists there is no real evidence that they even deter crime – not just by sitting there as an inanimate structure of bricks and mortar. Crime is not fought by buildings, but by ...  Continue reading
