3) A new category for "theft from the person" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
4) Public disorder and weapons were then split into two new categories; "public order" and "possession of weapons"
5) Both "other firearms offences" and "other knives offences" which were in "other crime" were moved into "possession of weapons".

The Bude Rural Beat covers around 100 square miles of some of the most isolated communities in the county.

The beat area includes the parishes of Morwenstow, Kilkhampton, Launcells, Marhamchurch, Poundstock, North Tamerton, Whitstone, Week St. Mary, Jacobstow and Boyton and miles upon miles of beautiful beaches and coastline.

The Neighbourhood Beat Team for the Bude Rural Beat consists of PC Nick Jessop, the Neighbourhood Beat Manager and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Sarah Ross supervised by Sergeant Johnny Haynes.

The beat is fortunate to have a relatively low crime rate and the main problems for the team are speeding traffic and minor youth disorder.

As with most of the force area the summer brings a massive influx of visitors to the many campsites and holiday homes which can cause problems in itself.

The beat area is currently the pilot and development area for Community Speed Watch which is being shown as an effective tool for educating speeding drivers.

Also the beat is the home of the Bude Rural Inter Parish Shields (BRIPS) which has been successfully run 4 times a year, though last year the weather had a severe affect and we had only one meeting. Farm Watch is also being developed to assist the local farming communities.

There is a very strong volunteer culture in Bude and its surrounding areas. There are more Police Volunteers helping in our community than anywhere else in the whole of Devon and Cornwall.

Crime rates are amongst the lowest in Cornwall and the Constabulary area as a whole.

There are numerous ways to get in touch with the team. You can email through this website, call the team on 01288 357502 (non urgent) or drop a letter or PACT postcard into the Police or PACT Post Boxes in most of our rural Post Offices.
