Newton Abbot – Rural encompasses Kingskerswell, Abbotskerswell, Coffinswell, Ipplepen, Denbury, and Ogwell. The population is very varied. It continues to expand with new developments being built in number of locations.

The rural areas of Newton Abbot are a safe place to live with the likelihood of being a victim of crime being well below the national average. In addition the incidents of serious crime are very low indeed. The main problems are spontaneous incidents of vandalism committed by those passing through the area. There are also problems with fear of crime. Some of this is created by differing views of what is acceptable causing relatively low level behaviour being interpreted as a significant threat.
