From May 2013, the following changes were made to the crime categories:
I) The violent crime category was renamed "violence and sexual offences"
2) A new category for "bicycle theft" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
3) A new category for "theft from the person" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
4) Public disorder and weapons were then split into two new categories; "public order" and "possession of weapons"
5) Both "other firearms offences" and "other knives offences" which were in "other crime" were moved into "possession of weapons".

The suburb of Elburton & Dunstone has a population of approximately 6000 residents. The area is predominantly urban, however it has boundaries with neighbouring rural areas. The area is linked to the city of Plymouth by main arterial routes. 

The population has a large percentage of middle-aged and pensionable home owners, which integrate with a number of younger families, whose offspring attend local primary and secondary schools.

The area has a village style commercial centre, which offers a variety of amenities, which are fully utilised by local residents.

Elburton & Dunstone is a safe place to live, with the likelihood of being a victim of crime being well below the national average. In addition, incidents of serious crime are very low indeed.

Despite this, members of the community are fearful of being a victim of crime and cite the antisocial behaviour caused by young people on weekend evenings, as cause for concern.

The neighbourhood team is committed to playing a fundamental role in maintaining the area as a low crime environment and a safe and pleasant place to live and work for all residents and visitors to the locality.
