{"id":57,"date":"2011-06-15T20:54:01","date_gmt":"2011-06-15T20:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ukcrimestats.com\/blog\/?p=57"},"modified":"2011-06-15T20:54:01","modified_gmt":"2011-06-15T20:54:01","slug":"fingers-crossed-for-the-open-data-challenge-results-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ukcrimestats.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/15\/fingers-crossed-for-the-open-data-challenge-results-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Fingers crossed for the Open Data Challenge results tomorrow . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Along with 429 other competitors across Europe, we entered our application &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ukcrimestats.com\">this website www.ukcrimestats.com<\/a> &#8211; to the<a href=\"http:\/\/opendatachallenge.org\/\"> Open Data Challenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Open Data Challenge\" src=\"http:\/\/opendatachallenge.org\/images\/logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"206\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve no idea who the other competitors are or what they&#8217;ve done and I look forward to finding out &#8211; that&#8217;s bound to give me some new ideas. It&#8217;s great the challenge has had such a good response. Of course a great many competitors are going to be disappointed but it will still be a net gain.<\/p>\n<p>Incentives, even remote ones, alway motivate people to do more and in the process they will acquire new skills and networks that they can take with them into the future.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a bit of a clich\u00e9 I know, but there really is no such thing as failure, only feedback.<\/p>\n<p>Competitions that encourage people to innovate, especially with data, has to be the way ahead for public policy.<\/p>\n<p>Let there be many more Open Data Challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Along with 429 other competitors across Europe, we entered our application &#8211; this website www.ukcrimestats.com &#8211; to the Open Data Challenge.
