We now have much better Scottish crime data

Way back in 2011 when I started this website, I took the plunge and decided to call it UKCrimeStats.com although there was no data for Scotland or Northern Ireland. About a year later, NI data appeared and then for years after there was nothing for Sotland until they released some not very good data at […]

Population updates for LSOAs and MSOAs – 2011, 2013 and 2015

A new feature for our subscribers, you can now choose from 3 different years for population datasets for Lower Layer Super Output Areas (LSOAs) and Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs). January 2015 updated and Postcode Data Generator Upgrades

We recently ran the January 2015 update and found one really odd bit; http://www.ukcrimestats.com/Neighbourhood/5948 – this neighbourhood in Wales where crime went from a monthly average of 1 to 340 ! We are confident that the data as released says this, as it does on police.uk http://www.police.uk/north-wales/GSW09/ but it’s either wrong or there was a major […]

Now with daytime population adjusted crime rates

Deflating or inflating the impact of crime relative to the size of the population has long been a hot topic amongst criminologists when measuring crimes committed against a person. Using static residential population has limited utility unless it is a relatively static area that doesn’t have people coming and going into and out of it. How […]
